Serving quality through the years
We have remained a traditional family-owned and operated seafood importer through years of growth, change, and success.
1960
Central Seaway Co., Inc. is founded by Gershon Feigon in Chicago as a frozen seafood importer.
1980
Gershon hires 25-year-old Nate Torch. Nate had prior seafood experience in Chicago’s storied Fulton-Randolph Street Market District.
1980
Central Seaway begins an unprecedented period of expansion. Over the next 20 years, business would grow more than fourteen fold.
1981
Gershon hires Jeff Stern, also 25. Jeff previously worked for a large accounting and audit firm.
1983
Gershon passes away at the age of 64. Ethel Feigon, Gershon’s wife of more than 40 years, becomes president of the Company.
1989
Central Seaway imports its first container of farm-raised shrimp from Southeast Asia, which would go on to become a staple of its business.
1993
Ethel and Gershon’s son, Lee Feigon, joins Central Seaway as a vice president. He becomes president later in his tenure.
2004
Central Seaway’s sister company, CenSea, Inc., is formed.
2017
Joe Rosenberg joins the Company as Chief Operating Officer.
2019
CenSea becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central Seaway.
2020
CenSea marks its 60th anniversary as Nate Torch also celebrates 40 years with the Company.
2021
Jeff Stern celebrates his 40th anniversary with the Company.
2022
Joe Rosenberg, Jeff Stern, and Nate Torch appointed Co-Presidents of the Company. The appointments mark a key step in CenSea’s succession planning efforts to develop the Company’s next generation of personnel and leadership.
